Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou - poet, writer, performer, teacher, director and civil rights activist - was born as Marguerite Johnson, in St. Louis, Missouri.

The author of six bestselling autobiographies and collections of poetry and essays, Maya Angelou has been the Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University in North Carolina since 1981.
