Dara Torres

Swimmer Dara Torres is a twelve-time Olympic medalist. She was the first swimmer from the United States to compete in five Olympic Games (1984, 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2008), and, at age 41, the oldest swimmer ever to earn a place on the U.S. Olympic team. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, she competed in the 50-meter freestyle, 4x100-meter medley relay, and 4x100-meter freestyle relay, and won silver medals in all three events.

Virginia Wade

Tennis player and coach Virginia Wade won three Grand Slam singles championships and four Grand Slam doubles championships. Wade won the women's singles championship at Wimbledon on 1 July 1977, in that tournament's centenary year.

Tennis player Hazel Wightman dominated American women's tennis before World War I, winning a lifetime total of 45 U.S. titles, the last at age 68.
The Wightman Cup was awarded to the winner of the Ladies International Tennis Challenge between British and American women's teams, which she helped organize.

Swimmer Esther Williams, missing the 1940 Summer Olympics because of the outbreak of WWII joined the Billy Rose Aquacade starring with Johnny Weissmuller. She was “discovered” by Hollywood scouts which lead to a movie career featuring elaborate synchronized swimming and diving routines.
