Queen Victoria
b. 5-24-1819; Kensington Palace, London, England
d. 1-22-1901; Isle of Wight
Queen Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch, beginning in 1837 when she was 18 years old. Her reign is known as the Victorian Era.
Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert had nine children and 26 of their 42 grandchildren married into royal and noble families, making Victoria “the grandmother of Europe”. After Albert died (typhoid) in 1861 Victoria went into deep mourning.
Did you know... that Victoria once called the artist and poet Edward Lear to court to give her drawing lessons?
