Marguerite Gerard was tutored by her brother-in-law Jean-Honore Fragonard and specialized in paintings of domestic scenes. By the 1780s Gerard was recognized as a leading artist in annual salon exhibits.

Eva Gonzales, the only formal student of Manet, is considered an Impressionist though she never exhibited with the group, following her teacher's lead. She often used her sister, as wll as her husband, as models.
