Violinist and conductor Ede Remenyi spent time in the United States after fleeing Austria for participating in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. He returned to Europe to tour with Johannes Brahm and was the solo violinist for Queen Victoria; later he was soloist for Emperor Franz Joseph, and made a world concert tour that included Japan, China, and the Cape of Good Hope.

Violinist and composer Forizel von Reuter, a child prodigy who maintained an adult career as a soloist and teacher of violin, spent most of his career in Germany. He adopted the "von" to his name to suggest connection to aristocracy.

Reuter was also a psychic and medium, authoring several books on his communications with deceased musicians.
