Louise Abbema
b. 10-30-1853; Étampes, Essonne, France d. 7-10-1927; Paris
Louise Abbema was a painter, sculptor, and designer of the Belle Époque (the period just before the 20th century to the beginning of WWI).
Abbema's first recognition came from her portrait of her friend actress Sarah Bernhardt, she was also an exhibitor at the 1893 Wolrd Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

Helen Allingham, née Paterson
b. 9-26-1848; Swadlincote, England
d. 9-28-1926
Watercolor painter and illustrator Helen Allingham is noted for her work on both children's and adult books during the Victorian period. Her work includes a commission to illustrate Thomas Hardy's “Far from the madding crowd”, her watercolors of farmhouses and cottages in Surrey and Sussex, and portraits, most notable Thomas Carlyle. She and Kate Greenaway were life-long friends.
Her husband was William Allingham, an Irish poet and editor.

Sofonisba Anguisciola
b. c. 1532; Cremora, Italy
d. 11-16-1625; Palermo, Sicily, Italy
Sofonisba Anguisciola (also spelled Anguissola) transcended many of the restrictions placed on women in the Renaissance, to achieve international acclaim. She was well educated and trained as a painter: Michelangelo was an informal teacher, and early art historian Giorgio Vasari wrote of her.
