Maria Taglioni's father (and teacher) Filippo Taglioni created the ballet La Sylphide to showcase her talent. It was the first ballet where the ballerina danced en pointe for the entirety of the work. She also was the first to shorten her skirt - how else could the audience see her foot work?

Maria Tallchief, whose father was a chief of the Osage tribe, studied ballet with Bronislava Nijinska, the sister of Vaslav Nijinsky. She danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and the New York City Ballet. Tallchief was briefly married to George Balanchine and originated the Sugarplum Fairy in his version of The Nutcracker.

The Talley family moved to Kansas City when Marion was 6 months old. She debuted at Metropolitan Opera, age 19, the youngest prima donna in Met history. Talley retired for a few years, had a come back in Chicago, tried Hollywood, and then withdrew from public performance to concentrate on family.

Soprano Renata Tebaldi, who had been stricken with polio at age three, focused primarily of verismo roles. Her voice teacher was Carmen Melis.

Luisa Tetrazzini was a coloratura soprano who enjoyed a successful opera and concert career in America and Europe during the 1890s through the 1920s. She is also associated with the city of San Francisco where she resided for years.

The dish ‘Tetrazzini’, which consists of chicken or fish with mushrooms in a creme sauce served over pasta, is named after her.

She was known as one of the “Baby Ballerinas” (along with Baronova and Riabouchinska) and appeared in Hollywood movies.
