The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a fantasy children's book by L. Frank Baum tells the story of young Dorothy Gale and her little dog Toto who are swept up in her Kansas farmhouse by a tornado and dropped into Munchkin Land, right on top of the Wicked Witch of the East.
The Wizard of Oz was produced as a Broadway stage musical in 1902. The better known 1939 film musical stars Judy Garland as Dorothy, Frank Morgan as the Wizard, Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion, Jack Haley as the Tin Man, and Billy Burke as Glinda the Good Witch, is rated the #3 All Time Greatest Movie Musical by AFI.
In 1975 The Wiz was staged on Broadway with an all black cast.
