Cabaret, set in 1931 Berlin just as the Nazis' are rising to power, portrays the nightlife of the seedy Kit Kat Klub. The ‘Emcee’ oversees the action which revolves around the young English cabaret performer Sally Bowles (a character invented by author Christopher Isherwood) and played by Liza Minnelli. Cabaret appeared on Broadway in 1966 and on film in 1972, for which choreographer Bob Fosse won Best Director Academy Award.
