The quintessential musical artist - pianist and vocalist Ray Charles, lost his sight between ages 5 and 7, and was orphaned by age 15. He attended the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida from 1937-1945, where he was taught classical music. He left school after the death of his mother and by 1947 had moved to Seattle where he formed his own band and began recording.

Harvey Lavan “Van” Cliburn

American pianist “Van” Cliburn won the first quadrennial International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 1958, at the height of the Cold War.
Cliburn's first music teacher was his mother Rildia Bee O'Bryan Cliburn; she was a student of Arthur Friedheim who had been a student of Franz Liszt.

Nat “King” Cole was an accomplished jazz pianist with a distinctive soft baritone voice. Cole, one of the first black Americans to host a television variety show is considered one of the most important musical personalities in United States history.
