Ballet dancer and movie actor Alexander Godunov, a member of the Bolshoi Ballet, defected to the United States in 1979. His U.S. movie roles include an Amish farmer in Witness (1985), a symphony conductor, “the maestro”, in The Money Pit (1986), and a terrorist in Die Hard (1988).

Gelsey Kirkland joined the NYC Ballet at the age of fifteen, having been inspired to dance by watching Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. She is perhaps best remembered by the public for her role of Clara in Mikhail Barysnikov's 1977 television production of The Nutcracker.
