Lady, Be Good was a 1924 Broadway musical starring Adele and Fred Astaire, and a 1941 film based on the music of George and Ira Gershwin. Notable songs were “Oh, Lady be Good!” and “Fascinating Rhythm”.

The 1956 Broadway musical Li'l Abner is based on the comic strip Li'l Abner by Al Capp. Among the memorable characters are Li'l Abner, Daisy Mae, Mammy Yokum, Appassionata von Climax, Stupefyin' Jones, Marryin' Sam, and General Jubilation T. Cornpone.

Lili was a 1953 film musical starring Leslie Caron as the title character, a recently orphaned waif hopelessly in love with a carnival magician, and Mel Ferrer playing Paul, a gruff puppeteer who can express his softer side only through his puppets. The most memorable song was “Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo”.

In 1961 Lili was remade as the film musical Carnival!.

Little Shop of Horrors, a rock musical with 1960s style rock and roll, doo-wop and Motown, is about a plant that feeds on human blood. It was first staged off-Broadway in 1982 and as a film in 1986.
