Racing Turtles for a Rainy Day

resources index > lesson plans > RACING TURTLES < reptiles & amphibians

Supplies- 6"- 7" plate, poster board or cardstock, pencil, crayons, markers or paint, scissors, hole punch, string, pictures of turtles.
scribbles 1

Use plate to draw a circle on the cardboard, add legs, tail and head.

Decorate your turtle (both sides) with medium of your choice. Refer to turtle pictures for ideas.

Cut the turtle out and punch a hole just beneath where the head meets the body of the turtle.

Measure 10' of string and tie one end to a table leg, bringing the other end through the hole.

When you pull the string taught, the turtle will stand, relax the string and the turtle will flop forward. Pull and flop the turtle to the end of the string, then flip the turtle over and race back.

Great for an indoor day!

A variation would be to use a Ladybug design.
