Carlotta Grisi's greatest role was Giselle, a ballet choregraphed by her teacher danseur Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli. She was one of the ballerinas featured in the “Pas de Quatre”.

Guilbert, born into a poor family, worked as a department store model, took singng and acting lessons, sang at the Moulin Rouge, and eventually toured England, Germany, and the United States.
Henri Toulouse-Lautrec made many portraits and caricatures of Guilbert capturing her usual pose of standing almost perfectly still in a bright yellow dress and long black gloves.
