Yellow is the color seen when the long and medium wavelengths stimulates the cone cells of retina almost equally but does not stimulate the short wavelength. Yellow is associated with both negative qualities such as cowardice, as well as sunshine and joy. Use yellow with caution - if fact, yellow is an attention getting color to warn of approaching hazards.
In a subtractive color system a primary color Yellow pigment + White pigment produces tints of lighter yellows; Yellow mixed with Black pigment results in darker shades that appear grayish green. Yellow + primary Red pigment results in secondary Orange; Yellow + primary Blue pigment = secondary hue Green; Yellow + Violet (complimentary colors) = shades of hues from a yellowish gray to bluish gray.
Because yellow pigment is found in naturally occuring and abundant minerals, yellow is found in artifacts from the earliest times.

Yellow Quotes:
Wolfgang von Goethe in Color Theory - 766. “In its purest form it (yellow) carries with it the nature of brightness, and has a serene, gay, softly exciting character. (...) 768. We find from experience that yellow excites a warm and agreeable impression ... it belongs to the illumined and emphatic side. 769. This impression of warmth may be experience in a very lively manner if we look at a landscape through a yellow glass ... 770. ... on the other hand, extremely liable to contamination, and produces a very disagreeable effect if it is sullied, or in some degree tends to the minus side ... the colour of sulphur ... has something unpleasant in it.”
Wassily Kandinsky in Concerning the Spiritual in Art - “Yellow, if steadily gazed at in any geometrical form, has a disturbing influence, and reveals in the color an insistent, aggressive character. (It is worth noting that the sour-tasting lemon and shrill-singing canary are both yellow.) The intensification of the yellow increases the painful shrillness of its note.”
Yellow Quotes ~
• “One golden day redeems a weary year.” Celia Thaxter
• “Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun.” Pablo Picasso
• “There is no blue without yellow and without orange.” ~ Vincent van Gogh

• food posters
I read that yellow is often associated with food, which brought back the memory of getting a school lunch of cheese pizza, corn and applesauce on a plastic yellow food tray - definitely unappetizing.
