James Russell Lowell

James Russell Lowell, a Romantic poet, a satirist, a diplomat (Spain, London), an abolitionist, and the first editor of The Atlantic Monthly, was the godfather of Virginia Woolf, and a descendent of colonial America theologian Jonathan Edwards.

James Russell Lowell was also one the ‘Fireside Poets’ group that included Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Cullen Bryant, John Greenleaf Whittier, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Robert Lowell

Poet Robert Traill Spence Lowell IV, born into one of the Boston Brahmin families (founding family), is considered the founder of the confessional poetry movement. He was appointed the sixth Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1946.

Robert Lowell called Soviet poet and writer Andrei Voznesensky “one of the greatest living poets in any language”.
