German Shepherd Dogs are well suited for active work with police, guarding and rescuing due to their intelligence and agility.
Guide dog training schools were first established in Germany during World War I, to enhance the mobility of returning veterans who were blinded in combat. The Seeing Eye was set up in 1929 in Morristown, New Jersey.

The Beagle is a breed of medium-sized dog in the hound group developed primarily for tracking hare, rabbit, and other game. Their keen tracking instinct and excellent sense of smell gets Beagles employed as detection dogs for prohibited items.
Beagles are popular as pets because of their size, even temper, and lack of inherited health problems. Snoopy is probably the world's most famous Beagle.

Bulldogs are a medium size breed developed in England out of the now extinct Old English Bulldog. Originally a fighting dog, probably descended from war dogs like the old Mastiff type, the agressiveness has been bred out and the Bulldog makes a good pet.
The fierce appearance of the Bulldog makes them a favorite mascot - such as ‘Handsome Dan’ at Yale, ‘Uga’ at the University of Georgia, and ‘Chesty’ of the U.S. Marine Corp.

The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog in the world and named for the Mexican state of Chihuahua. At first thought to be descended from Aztec breeding, it is now believed the breed may have arose in China, traded to Spain, and brought to Mexico.

St. Bernard's are large dogs known for their gentle temperment, loyalty, and vigilance. Their name comes from where they were bred as working rescue dogs, the traveller's hospice in the Great St. Bernard Pass which is the most ancient pass in the Alps.
St. Bernard's are a member of the Molosser type descended from a breed of ancient Greece. The Molosser type is not related to the Mastiff which are of Celtic origin
