Apple Blossoms are the state flower for Arkansas and Michigan.

The apple tree is one of the most widely cultivated fruit trees, and the apple figures prominately in mythology, folklore and history. The apple is depicted as tempting Eve, supposedly Issac Newton was inspired to ponder the relationship between Earth and its Moon by a falling apple, Johnny “Appleseed” Chapman planted appleseeds across the midwest United States, and an “apple a day will keep the doctor away.”

Goldenrod is a yellow flowering plant with slender stems that grows in ditches along roads and waste area throughout the United States.

Natural dye from goldenrod: Gather one and a half gallons goldenrod heads (just opened are stronger than older blossoms), cover with 2-3 gallons of water and boil for one hour, longer for stronger color. Strain the goldenrod from dye and submerse the fabric. Cotton with alum mordant = yellow; wool mordant with chrome = yellow-brown.
