Eastern Bluebird
The Eastern Bluebird, a member of the thrush family, is found in areas east of the Rockie Mountains from Canada to the Gulf States. The bluebird inhabit open woodlands, farm land and orchards where they eat insects. The bluebird is the state bird of Missouri and New York.

Mountain Bluebirds
The Mountain Bluebird's habitat is western North America including Alaska. Northern birds migrate south in winter and birds will move to lower altitudes. The Mountain Bluebird is the state bird of Idaho and Nevada.

Black-capped Chickadees are small songbirds that have a black cap and bib with white on the sides of the face. They nest in a hole in a tree and overwinter by storing seeds. The black-capped chickadee is the state bird of Maine and Massachusetts - Maine was part of Massachusetts until it was admitted as a state as a condition of the Missouri Compromise.

The American Goldfinch is a member of the finch family and is found from southern Canada to the Gulf States. The goldfinch is noted for its flight path - they generally fly in an up-down wave motion. The goldfinch is the state bird of Iowa, New Jersey, and Washington.

Purple Finches, the State Bird of New Hampshire, live in coniferous or mixed woodland borders, suburbs, parks, and orchards. Finches eat seeds, insects, fruit, and some tree buds and blossoms from winter to early spring.

The Mockingbird is best known for its habit of mimicking the songs of other birds - mocking them. Mockingbirds eat berries, seeds, and insects, prefer to perch in high places and will vigorously defend their nests. The Northern Mockingbird is the only mockingbird commonly found in North America and is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas.

The Robin, found throughout the United States and Canada, is distinctive because of its “red breast” and robin's egg blue color. The Robin is a migratory songbird in the thrush family that eats insects and earthworms. The robin, one of the first signs of spring, is the state bird of Connecticut, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
