Miami is located on the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida. It is a major center and a leader in finance, commerce, culture, media, entertainment, the arts, and international trade.

Miami is said to be the only city to be conceived by a woman, Julia Tuttle, who got businessman Henry Flagler to run a railroad from St. Augustine to what was then called Fort Dallas.

Miletus, an ancient city on the western coast of Anatolia (in what is now Turkey), near the mouth of the Maeander River was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC.
