The Persian Gulf was a source of pearls and Abu Dhabi was noted as a center for pearl trade. In the 1930s exploration for oil began and it is estimated that Abu Dhabi has control of 9% of the world's proven oil reserve; pollution is destroying the natural ecology and eliminating the importance of pearl diving.

Acapulco de Juarez is major sea port on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It is situated on a deep, semi-circular bay and has been a port since the early colonial period of Mexico’s history. Spain traded with the Far East through the Acapulco-Manila galleon route, exchanging New World silver for silk, gems and spices.
The name “Acapulco” is from the Nahuatl language referring to reeds; in 1885 the “de Juarez” was added to honor Benito Juárez, the former president of Mexico.
In the 20th century Acapulco became a favorite vacation destination, in the early 21st century Acapulco has been plagued by hurricanes, the swine flu and drug related gang violence.

Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana. It was first settled in the 15th century, it grew as the Portuguese, Swedes, Dutch, French, British and Danes, constructed forts to support the slave trade. The trade was abolished in 1807.
