Hekla, a currently dormant stratovolcano, is one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland. The frequent clouds that surround the volcano resembled the short hooded cloak worn by Icelanders known as a hekla.

Iliamna, a glacier-carved stratovolcano, is located southwest 134 miles sw of Anchorage on the west side of lower Cook Inlet. Iliamna's fumaroles, or cracks in the Earth's crust, produce almost constant plumes of condensate and minor amounts of sulfurous gases.

Iztaccihuatl, Nahuatl for “white woman”, is the third highest mountain in Mexico, and connected to Popocatepetl by the high pass used by Cortés (Paso de Cortés) to invade the valley of Mexico in 1519.
The Aztec myth is that the warrior Popocatepetl returned from battle to find his love Iztaccíhuatl had perished from grief believing he had died. The gods covered them with snow, Popocatepetl continues to rage over his loss.
