The Phlegraean Fields, also known as Campi Flegre, is a caldera situated to the west of Naples. Lying mostly underwater, the area comprises 24 craters and volcanic edifices such as the Solfatara crater, which is known as the mythological home of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan. The area was declared a regional park in 2003.

One of Chile's most active volcanoes, Villarrica, is also one of the most climbed stratovolcanoes, with the upper part of permanently covered by snow and glaciers.
