John Napier

John Napier invented logarithms which advanced the sciences in the solving of equations where the exponents are unknown. The word logarithms is based on the Greek logos = word, reason, and arithomos = number.
Napier also developed an acabus, or calculating rods, for simplifying multiplication and division problems into simpler addition and subtraction calculations. They are popularly known as Napier's Bones.

Florence Nightingale loved mathematics and her study of mathematics helped her collect data and organize a record keeping system to calculate the mortality rate of soldiers in the hospital.
BTW- Florence Nightingale was named for the city of her birth.

Emmy Noether, described as “the most important woman in the history of mathematics” made groundbreaking contributions to abstract algebra and theoretical physics. In mathematics Noether worked in the theories of rings, fields, and algebras, and in physics the fundamental connection between symmetry and conservation laws.
