Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini
b. 12-7-1598; Naples, Italy
d. 11-28-1680; Rome
Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini was a 17th century sculptor and architect in the Baroque style of elaborate, processional spaces, embellished with many details, that would impress with grandeur and obulence, such as the colonnade and piazza in front of St. Peter's Basilica.
Bernini's architectural designs concentrate primarily on the sculptural embellishment of pre-existing structures such as the baldachin (canopy) over the high altar of St. Peter's Basilica and Ecstasy of St. Theresa in Santa Maria della Vittoria.

Kees Boeke
b. 9-25-1884; Alkmaar, The Netherlands
d. 7-3-1966
Kees Boeke, who trained as an architect, is best remembered as a Quaker missionary, WWI pacificist who was a cofounder of an organization that later evolved into War Resisters' International, and educator associated with Montessori methods.
In his 1957 essay/book Cosmic View he presents the universe from the galactic to the microscopic scale, and as the founder of “De werkplaats” (the workshop) school, he introduced his idea of sociocracy where students are co-responsible with teachers for their curriculum.
FYI -
• The Cosmic View was the inspiration of several films - Charles & Ray Eames' The Power of Ten, Cosmic Zoom and Cosmic Voyage.
