Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Southeastern European Balkans.

Sarajevo is notable for its religious diversity and at the center of historical events: the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria and his wife Sophia that was the spark the ignited WWI, for hosting the 1984 Winter Olympics and for being under seige from 1992-1996 in the Bosnian War for independence.

Sardis was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lydia, one of the important cities of the Persian Empire, the seat of a proconsul under the Roman Empire, and the metropolis of the province Lydia in later Roman and Byzantine times.

Sardis was one of the Seven Churches of Asia (Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Philadelphia, Laodicea, Sardis).

Notable people associated with Sardis include Croesus, King of Lydia, who was defeated by Cyrus II of Persia in 546 BC.
